What is the Gang Show?

Pontefract Gang Show consists of members from Pontefract and Castleford District Scouts along with Ackworth & Whitwood Division Guides. Members of the Brownies, Cubs, Guides, Scouts, Explorers and Rangers sections take part aswell as Leaders and Young Leaders.

The aim of the gang show is to give young people in Scouting and Guiding a chance to develop their skills in Singing, Dancing and Acting, aswell as performing on a professional stage. For most young people this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

What does it involve?

The 50+ performers which include both children and adults whom are members of the Scouting and Guiding movements perform scenes based on Musicals, Comedy Sketches and Popular music. These performers give up their time for both rehearsals and performances on top of other Scouting/Guiding and Education/Work commitments.

While performing on stage they are supported by another 30+ people who again give up their time and their skills in areas such as Costumes, Front of House, Make-Up, Orchestra, Stage Crew, Lighting, Sound, Publicity, Scenery, Show Content and Production.

Volunteers are always welcome to assist both frontstage and backstage, aswell as being part of the cast. All adults taking part do of course have to undergo CRB clearance.

When does it all start?

Rehearsals for the show start around October time, these rehersals include learning songs, dance routines and actions for songs. Rehearsals increase nearer the show to ensure that everything is perfect with the show being performed in February.

If you have never seen a Gang Show before then why not come along and see for yourself and see how talented the children (and adults) are. Then just sit back and enjoy the show!
